An early pioneer in Content Delivery Networks, I've hosted some of the largest sites on the Internet. Helped Facebook scale one of the fastest growing Messaging platforms. Worked across Amazon's Internet and networking teams to deliver dashboards for the public AWS console as well as rescue broken internal ones. Currently building the next generation of realtime datalake to control and manage the Internet's largest network.
I'm passionate about the full Internet service stack, from Bootstrap and Angular through RESTful or GraphQL APIs, optimizing schemas and relational queries, or designing more bespoke services. Certainly no stranger to kernel tuning or just chosing the right hardware for the job. Always excited to try out a new cloud offering, or design purpose-built datacenters and Internetworks.
I champion users and use-cases. I understand their data (and rationalize it). I ensure processes and systems are measured. I look forward to identify goals (and opportunties). I iterate.. frequently.. and, I maintain documents and tools so the next iteration is quicker and easier for all.

Systems Development Engineer/
Started as a senior member of the DDoS Response Team for AWS Shield. Mentored junior developers and oversaw development of web based tooling as well as automation systems for rapid-response to attacks targeting Amazon and AWS customers. Led development of the AWS Console's Threat Environment Dashboard, a cross-team effort to surface a customer's own DDoS events in their AWS wide context.

Later joined a new Internet Operations team to spear-head instrumentation and automation of Internet Peering at AWS. Drove end-to-end process and data normalization across multiple internal organizations and the numerous global teams involved in network capacity planning, business development, ordering, delivery and operations. Made Public Peering at Internet Exchanges a possibility for AWS, after years of error prone and embarrassingly manual processes had to be be halted. Public IX capacity now represents a significant portion of AWS network capacity and is both better performing and lower-cost.

Most recently, built a streaming platform based on Apache Kafka to standarize the network monitoring data-plane and injestion of related data schemas for all networking devices from the Internet's edge to the datacenter substrate. This pipeline is at the heart of delivering customer trust through operational transparency for the entire AWS network, whose scale and complexity defies traditional network management approaches and requires specialized dynamic software control systems.

Fall 2014 - Spring 2016.
Production Engineer/
Worked on the realtime infrastructure for Facebook Messenger. Hybrid software/systems engineer working on the massive infrastructure necessary to run 800 million monthly active users. Bridged the gap between various software feature teams and various infrastructure teams. Primarily delivered operational and efficiency improvements using in-house systems for managing linux containers, monitoring services, deployment and development automation. Helped migrate to an improved message store. Moved fast, and helped prevent things from being broken.
Astute Hosting.
Fall 2010 - Fall 2014.
Built the website, management portal and a set of integrated hosting services for expert customers with a mid-size online presence. Services included: Anycast DNS, Content Delivery, NFS Storage, Monitoring and Network Automation.

Led four member team supporting and improving systems for the Network and Colocation division. Including the expansion of the Mercury portal to include power/cooling capacity planning and cabinet inventory, work orders/ticketing integration (Request Tracker) and a multi-vendor supported TACACS with command authorization based on Active Directory authentication.

Partner in a part-time computer consulting company targeting LAN installations and intranet software development. Far more interesting than returning to engineering school (which is what I was supposed to be doing at the time).
